The 2019 NASA Space Apps Challenge was held in Davao, Iloilo, and Manila from October 18 to 20, hosted by the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines in collaboration with various partners. The event included a data boot camp and a two-day hackathon, where teams developed innovative solutions based on NASA’s challenge categories.
In Iloilo, Team Techno PH emerged as one of the winners. They proposed a solution to enhance internet accessibility in coastal communities. Team member Rotherford Marmibe emphasized their mission to support underprivileged sectors by improving connectivity. Another Iloilo team, Voltage 5, developed a prototype called “S-Light,” which converts sound into electrical energy to address electricity shortages in underserved areas.
The event’s winners from Davao, Iloilo, and Manila will represent the Philippines in NASA’s global judging round, showcasing technological innovations aimed at addressing local and global challenges.
